Did you know that massage can help to aid the recovery of muscle after exercise?

Remedial Massage can benefit in a handful of different ways…

When you exercise, put simply, your muscles lengthen and contract to provide and create movement. The muscles contracting cause your bones move. These muscle contractions help to bring the foot to the gluteals whilst running and they bring the hands to the shoulders when doing a bicep curl. According to Murphy’s Law, “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.” Through these mechanical processes, whether you are working out in the gym, avoiding a tackle on the football field, cycling up a mountain or simply walking, the muscles involved all undergo a strain. They therefore need to repair themselves (varying in intensity) in order to avoid injury and tears and for the body to function, maintain itself and continue to get around.

While doing weights, the strain on the muscle causes micro damage that will automatically repair itself and in turn make the muscle much stronger and more tolerant to that particular action.

The recovery process can be enhanced with massage by increasing the blood supply to the area and therefore the rate of recovery can be greatly reduced. Many elite athletes use regular massage and incorporate a session into their weekly training program.

Remedial massage focuses on improving blood flow through restricted areas which increases the blood supply and in turn brings fresh oxygen to the depleted muscles. Massage also helps to even out and balance the muscles to allow fluidity in movement. It does this by realigning the muscle fibers that have become tight and “knotted”.

Fatigue is inevitable. The muscle is going to fatigue, it is just the rate of the recovery that will vary. Further exercise at a lower intensity accompanied my massage work extremely well together to ensure the muscles get back to their original state as quickly as possible after intense exercise. The therapists at No More Knots have extensive experience in working with regeneration and getting people back into optimum health and physical condition. We are passionate about helping eliminate pain and making the muscles more pliable to encourage the correct techniques and movements and in turn reinforcing postural awareness and strength.
